Best Photo-Editing Apps

May 15, 2015

With so many photo-editing apps out there in the app store, all claiming to be the newest and best, it’s hard to know which one to download without downloading five of them (which I have done). For consistency, sticking with one is a good idea, but how do you know which one to choose? Well hopefully, this’ll help you!

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the images used in this blog post (except the third one under VSCO Cam)

VSCO Cam [Free]

This is an app that lots of professionals use. you can edit your picture with different adjustments, and add filters, which are called presets in the app. The presets give your photos a subtle difference that somehow makes your photo worlds better. A new feature also allows you to copy and paste edits, so if you’ve edited one picture just the way you like and you want to use the exact same edits on another picture, you can! You can also make an account and share your pictures on the VSCO grid if that suits your fancy.

I’m not going to lie, VSCO has become the new “hipster trend” among high schoolers. However, that doesn’t make it any less of a useful tool.

Litely [Free]

This app gives you super natural and soft filters to enhance your picture without anyone noticing, so you can say #nofilter when you actually used a filter. You can also adjust crop, exposure, sharpness, and vibrance.

Afterlight [$.99]

This app comes with premade filters, but I think the best part of this app is the fact that you can create your own custom filters very easily. There are 15 adjustment tools (including brightness, exposure, saturation, sharpness, contrast, etc.) you can use to make your own filters! There are also your typical selection of hipster photo effects: textures, light leaks, and frames (including polaroid frames!)

DeluxeFX [$0.99]

To be honest, I’ve never actually had this app, so everything I’m telling you is based off of speculation.

The DeluxeFX app is all about color. It’s main function is to change up or emphasize colors. Using it can get you some really insane looking sunset pictures. Unfortunately, used incorrectly, this app will ruin your photos. Also, the color isn’t super natural looking, so if you’re going for a subtle effect, this isn’t the app for you.

Mextures [$1.99]

This app is unlike no other. Instead of using presets or filters to change the mood of the picture, you use overlaying textures. There are tons of combinations of textures you could potentially use, as the textures are mix and match (hence the name, Mextures). I’ve just downloaded this and so far my pictures have come out looking a bit ehh but that might be because I’m not experienced yet. The reviews, however, are stunning, so we’ll see.

Pin this for later!
